Building a website worthy of an international sporting event

The challenge

The International University Sports Federation (FISU) selected the Adirondack Sports Council and Lake Placid to host the 2023 FISU World University Games—a prestigious global festival and winter sports competition. Our task was to upgrade the Games’ placeholder website with an experience worthy of the biennial event.

The approach

We partnered closely with ADKSC stakeholders and brand agency Sidekick over three years to meticulously design, build, and refine the new website, navigating a rigorous government approval process with Empire State Development and strict accessibility requirements. The site’s focus also flexed to accommodate shifting audience priorities over the three years leading up to the games, including securing athlete partnerships, selling tickets and sponsorships, attracting visitors, and supporting the games during the event itself.

30K Daily Site Visits

Results

Launched to the public in multiple phases, the final website showcased 12 winter sports, 85 competitive events, and numerous venues. With the Games in full swing, it welcomed nearly 30,000 visitors per day.

“The site is spectacular. Better than we could have ever hoped or imagined.”
